PhD-Position

We are looking for a PhD student interested to work theoretically in the field of excitonic energy transfer in ultracold Rydberg atoms. The position (BAT IIa/2) is open in the division 'Finite Systems', headed by Prof. J.M. Rost. Dynamics of ultracold Rydberg gases obtained from laser-cooled atoms in traps is a newly developing and rapidly evolving field bridging the gap between traditional atomic and molecular physics to condensed matter physics. The PhD candidate is expected to work numerically and analytically contributing his own ideas within a small research team working on the subject. Experience in scientific programming and/or the physics of cold atom collisions or plasmas is helpful, although not mandatory. The institute is located in a new building and well equipped with computing resources. Moreover, within a unique visitors program, workshops and seminars are organized on a regular basis, providing ample opportunities for interaction with scientists from all over the world.

PhD-Position

We are looking for a PhD student to work on the interaction of atomic systems with high frequency intense laser pulses as they are available from Free Electron Lasers (FLASH, Hamburg) or from attosecond sources.

The candidate is expected to work numerically and analytically contributing her/his own ideas in a small team which will work on this subject. Previous experience in scientific programming and knowledge of the physics of short laser pulses coupling to matter is helpful, although not mandatory.

The institute is located in a new building and well equipped with computing resources. Due to its outstanding visitors program workshops are organized on a regular basis, giving excellent opportunities for interaction with other scientists from all over the world.
