Numerical bifurcation analysis applied to systems with delay

The numerical technique of continuation allows one to find and then follow equilibria, periodic solutions and their bifurcation in system parameters. Numerical continuation has been well established for the study of ordinary differential equations since the 1980's, and it has become available in the last decade also for systems with delay in the form of the sofware packages DDE-BIFTOOL and PDDE-CONT. We will demonstrate with some examples form laser dynamics how such advanced methods can be brought to bear to unravel complicated dynamical scenarios in practial applications.
