Recent experiments in above-threshold ionization

Ionization of atoms in strong laser fields has been investigated for 30 years. The prevailing conception is that phenomena like above-threshold ionization are well understood and described by various versions of Keldysh-type theories. Interestingly, however, the regime where these theories should be valid best is hardly tested by experiment. We will present experimental data featuring a strong effect that cannot be explained within current theories.
