Berry phase effects on spin and charge transport

In this talk, I will review the basic concept of Berry's geometric phase and its application on semiclassical dynamics of electrons in Bloch bands. Much success has been achieved in the past several year for quantitative explanation of anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic materials using our formalism. Clear predictions on spin transport and related phenomena have also been made, which are actively been probed experimentally.
