Playing with Superlattices: Ultracold Atoms out of Equilibrium

In recent years, ultracold atoms in optical lattices have emerged as a key tool for the simulation of quantum many-body phenomena in and in particular also out of equilibrium. In this talk, I will focus on a new experimental technique, the use of optical superlattices, which opens up the way to the realization of phenomena such as magnetism or relaxation dynamics in such systems with excellent experimental and theoretical control, the latter mainly by the use of highly efficient quantum simulations.
