Complex materials in strong laser fields

Thomas Brabec, University of Ottawa

Multi-electron dynamics in strong laser fields combines two of the most difficult areas of theoretical physics, many-body problems and non-perturbative dynamics. To this end we have developed two approaches: (i) a time dependent multi-configuration Hartree Fock (MCTDHF) analysis for few-body quantum dynamics and (ii) a microscopic particle in cell (MPIC) code for classical multi-electron dynamics.
The basic principles behind both codes will be reviewed and applications of the codes to ionization and explosion of clusters and molecules in strong laser fields will be discussed.
