Photon interactions using Rydberg dark states |

| We map the high sensitivity of Rydberg atoms to electric fields onto a strong optical transition from the ground state using Rydberg electromagentically induced transparency (EIT). This technique can be used to realise a medium with an extremely large dc Kerr effect. The application to photon entanglement will be discussed. |
