Coupling of surface and volume plasmons in C-60 molecules |

| We briefly introduce a semiquantal approach to the description of collective excitations in fermionic systems, the local current approximation (LCA), which has been successfully used for nuclei and metal clusters. We apply the LCA to electronic excitations in C-60 molecules, in which a "volume plasmon" has recently been measured, and analyse the results in terms of coupled translational and compressional dipole oscillations of the electrons against the ions. |
