Stochastic dynamics and control of spin systems

Molecular magnets or magnetic nano particles have often a large magnetic moment with some preferential orientation dictated by so-called anisotropy fields. A key issue, e.g. for data storage, is how to switch and control this magnetization by external fields [1]. We addressed this issue by means of classical analytical and numerical calculations [2]including thermal fluctuation and damping effects and identified how stochastic switching can be realized. Parallels to the quantum case are also drawn.
