Complex dynamics of a trapped atom approaching EIT conditions

We study the dissipative force terms which appear in the center-of-mass motion of a trapped atom illuminated by two laser beams. As the atom approaches conditions of electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT), dissipation by Mössbauer-type effects and by spontaneous emission appear which explain the rapid cooling of vibrational motion predicted recently (PRA 2008). The Wigner function allows us to show the trapped atom motion in phase space, which could be adjustable with experimental parameters. We study the entangled state of electronic and vibronic atomic degrees of freedom during atom-light coupling. Investigation of the forces inserted on the atom under EIT cooling condition has been presented.
