Tim-Oliver Müller, Alexander Kaiser and Harald Friedrich We present a theoretical formalism [1] that provides a reliable and simple description of bound and continuum states in interatomic potentials with attractive tails. The scattering properties [1] and the bound state spectrum [2] can accurately be described in the range from the extremely quantum mechanical near-threshold regime to the semiclassical regime at rather high scattering/binding energies. The influence of the potential tail enters via universal functions, e.g., quantum reflection properties [3]. Short-range effects are incorporated by a single parameter, i.e., the non-integer part Δth of the threshold quantum number. The validity of our formalism is demonstrated for inverse-power tails, as due to interatomic dispersion force. [1] T.-O. Müller, A. Kaiser and H. Friedrich, Phys. Rev. A 84, 032701 (2011) [2] T.-O.
