The first part of this year’s Atomic Physics workshop (Monday and Tuesday) will focus on the topic of

Quantum electronics and quantum optics with x-rays

whereas the second part (Wednesday to Friday) is open to all topics of interests in atomic, molecular and optical physics.

On Wednesday, we will honor in addition with a series of talks the scientific work of Harald Friedrich on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

The focus is intended to discuss recent highlights and opportunities of studying quantum optical processes in atoms, molecules and nuclei with x-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) sources. Covered topics will be

-       nuclear quantum optics
-       parametric processes with x-rays in combination with optical and VUV light
-       imaging of electron dynamics by inelastic x-ray scattering and x-ray wave mixing
-       electron and nuclear wave-packet dynamics induced by XFEL interaction with atoms and molecules
-       stimulated resonant inelastic x-ray scattering with XFELs
-       non-linear spectroscopy with x-rays
-       high-intensity effects in x-ray propagation through atomic  and molecular gases

The registration fee for the workshop is €120 and should be paid by all participants. The number of attendees is limited.
Costs for accommodation and meals will be covered by the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. Accommodation will be organized. Limited funding is available to partially cover travel expenses. Please note that childcare is available upon request.

Deadline for registration was October 12, 2012
