Molecular-frame 3D photoelectron momentum distributions (PMD) from strong-field ionization of both fixed-in-space and randomly oriented naphthalene molecules using circularly and elliptically polarized laser pulses are theoretically analyzed. By direct comparison between experiment and theory we show that the general shape and the angular shift of the PMD are very sensitive to the exact form of the molecular potential. In addition, the possibility to observe signatures of the molecular orbital nodal planes in various 2D cuts through the 3D PMD is discussed.
