The multi-level phenomena in the Rydberg blockade

Yurii Dumin

It is shown that the phenomenon of Rydberg blockade -- widely exploited now in various branches of physics -- can have a nontrivial spatial structure, which should be expected due to a strong perturbation of the electron energy levels at the sufficiently small interparticle distances. In particular, the possibility of Rydberg excitation can be unblocked deep inside the standard Rydberg blockade volume, thereby forming an intermittent sequence of the blocked and unblocked shells.

In this report, we are going both to review our previous analytical estimates of such an effect [Yu.V. Dumin, J. Phys. B 47, 175502 (2014); 48, 135002 (2015)] and to present the new detailed numerical calculations.
