KcsA is a potassium ion channel with a strong similarity to that of vertebrate and invertebrate voltage-dependent K+ channels. Using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, conformational changes in the selectivity filter have been studied. Starting from the X-ray structure of the conductive channel, a non-conductive structure that superimposes on the known X-ray structure of the inactive channel was obtained. Moreover a pathway toward this non-conductive state is proposed. |
