Work will be presented on the development and application of an on-the-fly kinetic Monte Carlo approach to the modelling of long time scale dynamics. The implementation of the methodology will mainly be demonstrated through the modelling of thin film deposition, with some further examples taken from the modelling of radiation damage. The work on thin film growth will illustrate how realistic growth rates of the order of 1 monolayer per second can be achieved through the use of such techniques. Challenges to utilising the techniques will also be discussed. |
