International Workshop and Seminar on
Bio-inspired Complex Networks in Science and Technology
From Topology to Structure and Dynamics

April 14 - May 9, 2008

Scientific coordinators:
Stefano Boccaletti (CNR - Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi, Firenze, Italy and Italian Embassy in Israel)
Thilo Gross (Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden, Germany)
Jürgen Kurths (Universität Potsdam, Germany

Organisation:
Katrin Lantsch (MPIPKS Dresden, Germany)

Presently our knowledge on the topology of biological networks, ranging from genes via neurons to societies, is increasing at an astonishing pace. A major challenge is to link the topological information to network functioning, and therefore to dynamics. Over the recent years significant progress in this direction has been made. The insights that have been gained are not only interesting in the context of biomedical applications; they also point to design principles that can be exploited in the construction of bioinspired technical networks. The present workshop aims to bring researcher with different backgrounds together. The workshop will be suplemented by a school and a seminar. The school consists of a series of introductory lectures while the seminar provides room for direct interactions and collaborations.

List of invited lecturers and speakers:
Kazuyuki Aihara (Japan), Réka Albert (USA), Uri Alon (Israel), Andreas Amann (Ireland), Kevin E. Bassler (USA), Igor Belykh (USA), Eshel Ben-Jacob (Israel), Bernd Blasius (Germany), Stefan Bornholdt (Germany), Regino Criado Herrero (Spain), Albert Díaz-Guilera (Spain), Mark Fricker (UK), Sarika Jalan (Germany), Jürgen Jost (Germany), Vito Latora (Italy), Pietro Lio' (UK), R.
