Spatiotemporal firing patterns are defined as sequences of spikes with high temporal precision of the order of milliseconds. Let us consider a neuron The nonlinear dynamic deterministic structure of temporal information transmitted by the afferent spike trains can be retrieved in the output spike train depending on the level of noise and on the parameters of the neuron model. This feature is critical to determine the encoding and decoding processing that might be carried out by a single neuron and by the network and the extent of a distributed population coding scheme.
