Cellular Mechanisms of Sensory Processing

Workshop: 14 - 17 October 2014

Scientific Coordinators:
Martin Göpfert (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany)
Tobias Moser (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany)
Fred Wolf (Max-Planck-Institut für Dynamik und Selbstorganisation, Göttingen, Germany)

Organisation:
Ana Jukneviciute (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany) & Katrin Lantsch (Max-Planck-Institut für Physik komplexer Systeme Dresden, Germany)

Processing of sensory information is the basis of our interaction with the outside world and sensory deficits. Sensory cells and neurons feature specialized signaling machineries achieving remarkable performance, which when disturbed result in sensory dysfunction. The workshop will cover sensory transduction, synaptic transmission, neuronal plasticity and the function of neuronal networks from the level of protein complexes to behavior. The presented research combines molecular perturbations with analysis of morphology and function of sensory systems and mathematical modeling and contributes to a comprehensive understanding of sensory processing. Young as well as advanced scientists the Göttingen-based DFG collaborative research center 889 and the Graduate School for Neuroscience, Biophysics and Molecular Bioscience will discuss their recent research activities and would like to interact with Dresden-based researchers interested in sensory biology and physics of complex systems. Contributions of the Dresden research community to the workshop are highly appreciated.
