International Workshop on
Statistical Physics and Biology of Collective Motion

November 8 - 12, 2010

Scientific coordinators:
Andreas Deutsch (Technische Universität Dresden, Germany)
Guy Théraulaz (Research Center on Animal Cognition, Toulouse, France)
Tamas Vicsek (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary)

Organisation:
Katrin Lantsch (Max-Planck-Institut für Physik komplexer Systeme, Dresden, Germany)

The main goal of the workshop is the identification and documentation of new unifying principles describing the essential aspects of collective motion in living systems, being one of the most relevant and spectacular manifestations of collective behavior. Scientific activity in this direction has recently grown very quickly. We will consider systems ranging from cultures of migrating tissue cells to ant colonies and flocks of birds. It is the aim of this workshop to pave the ways to possible new topics related to collective motion.
