International workshop and seminar on

BEYOND QUASIPERIODICITY:
COMPLEX STRUCTURES AND DYNAMICS

Workshop: January 11 - January 15, 1999 Seminar: January 18 - February 5, 1999

   Scientific Coordinators:

Ulrike Feudel Celso Grebogi Arkady Pikovsky
Universität Potsdam, Germany University of Maryland, USA Universität Potsdam, Germany

Quasiperiodicity yields interesting complex behavior in dynamical systems (strange nonchaotic attractors, synchronization phenomena, systems with fractal spectra), in condensed matter physics (localization phenomena, excitations in disordered lattices), and in the theory of quantum chaos (dynamical localization with respect to quasiperiodic excitation, anomalous diffusion in systems with fractal spectra). The aim of this interdisciplinary workshop/seminar is to discuss the relationship among those different aspects of complex behavior and to emphasize the common features of those systems. In particular, it is also intended to improve the mathematical understanding of various transitions in quasiperiodically forced systems.

The aim of the seminar is to provide an opportunity for students and young researchers to learn about the methods and techniques used for the exploration of complex behavior in different systems and to work directly in interdisciplinary projects.
