Recent work initiated by Kane and Mele has shown that time-reversal invariant insulators with spin-orbit coupling can exhibit a non-trivial Z2 topological structure, realizable in principle in graphene. I will discuss connections of this structure to the usual Integer Quantum Hall Effect, its robustness, and a generalization to three dimensions.
