The effects of long and short range interactions in single graphene sheets and multilayered graphite is analyzed. The long range Coulomb interactions modifies the quasiparticle spectrum in graphene, and it can lead to a ferromagnetic instability in a bilayer. The short range reulsion favors antiferromagnetism in multilayered systems.
