Hexagonal boron nitride forms a well-ordered monolayer on the Ni(111) surface. Mayn different techniques have been applied to study this interface in detail. Recent time-resolved photoemission experiments gave evidence for the occurence of surface states with rather high lifetimes of the order of 100 fs. The spectrum exhibits several features one of them being an extremely strong resonance dominating the whole spectrum. The possible mechanism of this resonance will be discussed. In this talk, these results will be reviewed and new results about the signature of magnetic properties of the substrate and hot carrier dynamics will be presented.
