Angle resolved photoemmision studies on underdoped samples of Bi2212 reveal that the superconducting gap's magnitude and anisotropy remain unchanged as function of temperature all the way to Tc. Above Tc, the point nodes of the the d-wave gap abruptly expand into finite length Fermi arcs. These results are in strong contrast to overdoped samples which show a more conventional behavior.
