Coherent spectroscopy techniques are presented to investigate Rydberg atoms and molecules in a dense environment. High density ensembles are provided either by magnetically trapped ultracold gases or vapor cells. Here coherent control is possible down to cell dimensions of one micrometer enabling possible applications as quantum devices and networks.
