Time delayed dynamics in coupled two mode lasers

One of the current challenges in photonics is the problem of all-optical processing and manipulation of optical signals. The recently developed two-mode laser diode offers many new possibilities, such as an all-optical memory element and a rich bifurcation scenario, even as a single device with optical injection [1,2]. By coupling two or more two-mode lasers, even more sophisticated all-optical functionality is expected. Here we consider simple configurations of two coupled two mode lasers. Due to the coupling via optical fibre, the theoretical description requires the use of time delay differential equations which leads to new features in the dynamical behavior of the coupled system.
