Dynamics and Statistics of Polydisperse suspensions of Inertial Particles

Finite-size, mass impurities suspended in incompressible flows, due to inertia, distribute inhomogeneously giving rise to "preferential concentration", which is responsible for both segregation of particles having different physical properties and clusterization of particles with close physical properties. Results obtained from poly-disperse turbulent suspensions of heavy and light inertial particles, obtained by Direct Numerical Simulations, are reported together with a discussion about the importance of preferential concentration on the collisions of inertial particles.
