Questions related to transport and mixing may be bets understood in the Lagrangian framework. In order to perform measurement in this reference frame, we have developed instrumented particles which take on-board sensors and data-acquisition units and radio measurements to the laboratory operator. I will describe some aspects of the technology and show how it is applied to the study of the dynamics of inertial particle and to transport in Rayleigh-Bénard convection.
