We have been seeing an increased appreciation and concern for the implications of nonlinear dynamics in biological systems. Issues in various topics in biology are just at the forefront of recent application topics in nonlinear dynamics. The common thread through those topics is the wedding of knowledge of the basic mathematical properties of dynamical systems with specific practical considerations of various biological applications. We are especially concerned with data-based modelling in which we examine the evolution of the system in the form of a nonlinear time series from which we can analyze, understand, make predictions and/or control the dynamics of the process in question. Especially in view of the enormous recent progress in 3D data analysis and time-dependent imaging, we can model the system in a way which is much closer to nature than it was done before.
