Estimating the collision rates between particles is important for applications such as droplet coalescence in clouds. I will discuss the current method of estimating collision rates, based on the "ghost collision" approximation, and show that it leads to an overestimate of the collision rate by as much as ~ 30% at small Stokes numbers. I will discuss the dependence of this overestimate as a function of the Stokes number. |
