I will review ideas used to implement renormalization group (RG) transformation – i.e., successive elimination of degrees of freedom of a many-particle quantum system at the expense of modifying the coupling constants and introducing new types of interactions – for solving problems in solid state physics. Starting from the simplest decimation or block transformation for models defined on a lattice, we will arrive at the exact functional RG method applied to models defined in momentum space. |
