Modelling of electromagnetic pulses in plasmas

In collaboration with V Saxena and J Borhanian. Recent work on the modelling of electromagnetic pulses (solitary waves) propagating in plasmas is reviewed. Relying on a combined fluid-Maxwell model, a multiscale perturbation technique is employed to model the evolution of a EM wavepacket envelope. The stability properties of the soliton solutions thus obtained are investigated analytically and numerically. The occurrence of extreme excitations (rogue wave-like) is also briefly discussed.
