We present the results of an extensive numerical investigation of the laser driven ion acceleration considering an alternative target configuration where a solid density thin plasma is coupled with a low density layer attached on the irradiated side. The presence of the low density layer strongly increases the energy conversion efficiency and the energy of the fast electrons leading to enhanced proton acceleration from the rear side. Proton energy up to three time higher than the case case of "bare" solid target are obtained. We present the results of 3D and 2D Particle In Cell simulations considering both normal and oblique incidence. Reference http://arxiv.org/abs/1112.3759v1
