| The asymptotic safety program of Quantum Einstein Gravity will be reviewed, focusing on various conceptual issues which turned out important recently. Employing the background independent framework of the effective average action, it will be explained why the requirement of a background independent quantization plays a significant role in the asymptotic safety scenario. A general scheme will be presented which, in principle, allows us to make contact with other approaches to quantum gravity. |
