We study nonequilibrium dephasing in an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Taking into account of electron-electron interactions in a phenomenological way, we show that the combined effect of the nonequilibrium electron densities in the two arms of the interferometer, correlated to each other by the shot noise at the beam splitter of the interferometer, and their fluctuations gives rise to the characteristic dephasing as a function of the bias voltage, a lobe pattern in the visibility and phase jumps of π. The result is in good agreement with experimental data.
