The 2-body description of the electron gas has been attempted by P.Z. [Phys.Lett. A195, 213 (1994)] as a generalized density-functional theory and by A.W. Overhauser [Can.J.Phys. 73, 683 (1995)] parametrizing the pair density (PD) in terms of geminals. The analysis given here, rests upon the reduced-density-matrix theory. The quantum-kinematics in lowest order is given by the PD g(r) and by the momentum distribution n(k). It is shown here, that the cumulant 2-matrix is a key quantity, since its diagonal yields g(r) and its contraction yields n(k). For the high-density limit the expressions are given in detail.
