Jahn-Teller polarons in a dense electron system

The Jahn-Teller coupling seems to play a central role in generating charge, spin and orbital ordered phases in Manganites. We extend our earlier studies (cond-mat/0406085) to the two band double exchange model including Jahn-Teller coupling to adiabatic distortions. We use a recently developed (cond-mat/0406082) monte-carlo strategy to update the classical variables and map out the T=0 phase diagram of this model in 2 and 3 dimensions. We also look at the effect of an additional AF superexchange and quenched disorder on the system. We use exact eigenstates of the problem in the Kubo-Greenwood formula to study the transport. The focus is on identifying a parameter regime which allows for thermally driven metal-insulator transitions at generic hole doping.
