We discuss the application of the time-dependent Density-Matrix Renormalization Group (t-DMRG) to interacting quantum many-body systems undergoing a sudden change, for example in the interaction parameter. We discuss the applicability and accuracy of different variants of the t-DMRG to various systems. As test systems, we consider interacting spinless fermions as well as hard-core bosons in one dimension. We explore issues such as under what circumstances recurrent behavior occurs, how dephasing and decoherence takes place, and the applicability of prethermalization and thermalization to the behavior.
