Noise enhance information processing in neural populations

A number of results will be presented on the effect of noise on the transmission of information through both model and real neural populations. In particular, the effect of suprathreshold stochastic resonance will be discussed and demonstrated for a real neural system. Also, methods of optimising information transmission, including the use of negatively correlated noise, will be discussed. Additionally, different types of noise will be studied such as signal dependent noise (synaptic) and additive noise.
