Ordered and Non-Ordered Superstructures of Nanosized Objects: Preparation, Properties, Applications, and Modeling

International Workshop - 09 - 13 July 2012

Scientific coordinators:

Alexander Eychmüller (Technische Universität Dresden, Germany)
Alexander Govorov (Ohio University, Athens, USA)
Dmitri Talapin (The University of Chicago, USA)

Organisation:

Claudia Poenisch

This workshop aims to stimulate interaction and information exchange among experts working on nanocrystals with emphasis on optical properties of coupled quantum dots and nanoparticles. With this we pick up a hot topic within the current research on nanocrystals and quantum dots. The problem of coupled nanoparticles will be tackled both experimentally and theoretically. The focus will be on the coupling effects between semiconductor-semiconductor, semiconductor-metal, and metal-metal nanocrystals. The interactions represent many-body effects and can occur via tunneling, Coulomb interaction, photon and energy transfer, quantum entanglement, etc. From the side of applications, the interactions between nanocrystal building blocks are the key elements of knowledge necessary to build modern nano-devices. It is envisaged that exchange of ideas is fostered and new collaborations between experimentalists and theoreticians are promoted.
