Computational Study of Microporosity and Permeability

A coupled phase-field and Lattice Boltzmann model is used to simulate the flow in porous media. The model provides a computational method to determine physical quantities for evaluating the porosity and permeability in media. The considered medium interspersed with pores may have an arbitrary shape and structure.

We present simulation results for media of different porosity and within different types of vein systems using a compressible and incompressible Lattice Boltzmann model in comparison. The method may serve for simulation applications to investigate the permeability of blood-vessels.
