Phase-Field Model Approaches to Dynamics of Driven Interfaces

In this talk I will review recent progress in systematically deriving equations of motion and dispersion relations for interfaces (menisci and contact lines) starting from bulk phase-field models. This can be done systematically using projection techniques or variational approach to the appropriate free energy functionals. As concrete examples, I will discuss spontaneous [1] and driven wetting [2] to a random medium in 2D, the case of wetting with explicit wall roughness in 3D [3], and the influence of disorder strength [4]. Finally, I will also discuss an alternative approach to derive interface dispersion relations directly in the sharp interface limit [5].
