Segmentation of MRI Data Using the Partial Differential Equation of Allen-Cahn Type

The algorithm for segmentation of image data is based on numerical solution of the geometrical evolution partial differential equation of the Allen-Cahn type. This equation has origin in the description of motion by mean curvature and has diffusive character. The diffusion process can be controlled by the segmented signal so that the edges of the objects or areas can be found. The method is applied to the problem of automated segmentation of the cardiac MR images of the left heart ventricle with the subsequent interpretation of its dynamics.
