Non-Newtonian Viscous Fingering

Non-Newtonian fluid flow poses a challenge to current phase-field models for biphasic Hele-Shaw flows. However, viscoelasticity is a key ingredient in biological applications and should hence be our target. In this talk we will present an alternative phase-field model for biphasic fluid flow, applicable to any geometry, which can deal with non-Newtoninan fluids. As an example, we will present results on viscous fingering with a shear-thinning fluid, for which extensive experimental results are available, alongside with a comparison to those experiments.
