The phenomenology of lateral diffusions on a 2D interface is greatly influenced by the geometry of the interface. We investigate how fluctuations in the geometry of the interface effectively influence diffusions on scale much larger than the fluctuation scale. Numerical evidence show that introducing an effective, renormalized diffusion coefficient is generically not sufficient to model correctly the net effect of fluctuations and that more involved strategies are needed.
