Physics of Information and Synchronization in Stochastic Dynamics

The interplay of nonlinear dynamics and fluctuations in complex systems with applications in physics, chemistry, biophysics and stochastic computing is attracting rapidly growing interest in recent years. The characterization of the underlying physics then requires new measures of complexity. In this context the use of synchronization and information theoretic measures plays an increasingly prominent role. The goal of this workshop is to promote such original ideas among the practitioners of the various scientific disciplines and to work out the common groundworks for the understanding of the novel phenomena in these and related interdisciplinary fields. This workshop will hopefully stimulate vivid discussions how these concepts can effectively be applied to topics such as:

• physics of information
• phase dynamics in stochastic systems
• stochastic resonance in physics and biophysics
• synchronization in chaotic and noisy systems

Applications for participation should be sent to the address below. Application forms are available upon request or on the conference web page. The workshop's registration fee is DM 150. Costs for accommodation and meals will be covered by the Max Planck Institute. In exceptional cases, limited funding is available to partly cover travel expenses.
