For the purpose of studying thermodynamic and transport properties of multiple quantum dot structures, a new highly flexible implementation of the NRG has been developed. In particular, it allows easy setup of complex impurity cluster models and physical quantities to be computed: both can be described in terms of familiar and natural second quantization expressions. As an application, two types of clusters were recently explored: those of N parallel quantum dots (N=1,...,5) and N serial quantum dots (N=1,...,4). Both classes will be reviewed, with an emphasis on quantum phase transitions in the case of parallel dots and the two-channel Kondo effect in the case of three dots in series.
