Cavity solitons is a kind of dissipative soliton which has attracted a noteworthy attention in the recent years because of its potential applications to optical information processing. We report on the experimental observation of cavity solitons in VCSELs above threshold, despite the presence of a Hopf instability which affects the background of the solitons. We also illustrate the possibility of realizing a cw cavity soliton laser.
