Majorana fermions as emergent particles in condensed matter systems have become a recent topic of tremendous interest. They can appear as midgap states of topological superconductors. In this talk, we will show that HgTe-quantum wells, a material with giant Rashba spin-orbit coupling and large effective g-factor, can support chiral Majorana edge states when brought in proximity to s-wave superconductivity and in a magnetic field with electrically tunable propagation directions. Further, we will discuss ways how to probe Majorana fermions in transport setups when microwave irradiation is applied.
